Problem with 1E string not ringing 3 Years, 7 Months ago Karma: 0
I cant figure why I cant get my 1E string to ring out when I am playing A major and D major I have my fingers arched enough to not affect it. What can I do to get it to ring out?

Well there are many things that can cause a string to buzz or not ring. Things to check are:

1. Does the string ring nice and clean when you play it open (as if you were tuning it)?
2. What happens when you play each note going up the neck on the high e string? Just using your index finger and playing each note, do they all sound out ok?
3. Sounds Like you are working on E-A-D Major chords, how do the strings sound when playing the E Major Chord?
4. Are you able to physically adjust or shift your fingers with your other hand to the point where it will ring clearly? (feel free to grab the chord with your left and make adjustments with your right hand, adjusting your left hand fingers) If yes then you just need to get your fingers to grab that chord a little more.
5. How old are the strings? Old strings can cause a lot of trouble, even if you have just bought your guitar, those strings could be a year old.
6. Is the action too high or low? The distance between the neck and the strings is called the action. Too high or too low can cause buzzing and muting.
7. String gauge? What are you playing and acoustic or an electric? Acoustics take more effort to sound a note, and if the syringes are too heavy for you at first, you will struggle with making clean sounding chords until you fingers get stronger.
8. And very unlikely but always possible is a high fret or a neck out of adjustment. The other issues I mentioned above are much more common.

Lots of stuff - But check a few of those out and hop on the chat with one of us and we’ll get ya going…

Rock on…
Rick
